Detail
The guidance provides an explanation to healthcare professionals of the new drug driving offence including the statutory ‘medical defence’ available to patients who have taken their medicine in accordance with the advice of a healthcare professional and the information contained in the leaflet accompanying the medicine. It also reiterates existing advice that healthcare professionals would normally consider giving to patients about taking medicines that could impair their driving.
It has been developed on the advice of independent clinical experts and has been approved by the Secretary of State for Transport’s Honorary Advisory Panel on Alcohol, Drugs and Substance Misuse.
