A drunk driver was caught on camera twice crashing into the central reservation of a dual carriageway… and then driving on.

Martin Cantrill, 43, was three-and-a-half times the legal drive limit when he was caught on camera by Tom Cafferty swerving across the A14 near Kettering, Northamptonshire.

In the footage, Martin Cantrill, driving a white Rover, smashes into the central reservation, recovers and then swerves wildly across the road, doing a full 360 and hitting the reservation a second time. The car briefly goes off-road but Cantrill recovers and drives on.

‘The defendant had a smashed pint glass at his feet and a bottle of wine in the passenger seat,’ said prosecutor Paul Prior at Northampton Crown Court.

Mr Cafferty, whose YouTube upload of the video has received nearly 600,000 views, said: ‘I was on my way back from work and suddenly I was blindsided when this car travelling at a high speed came flying past me on the inside.

‘I slowed down and stayed well back which is a good job because he crashed into the central reservation and span round 360 degrees.

‘He was swerving in and out of lanes and I couldn’t believe it when he went over onto the grass verge but then kept on driving.’

Michael Coley, defending, said Cantrill had an alcohol problem at the time but had not drunk since.

‘He has very little recollection of this incident. He has been shown footage of the incident and he was disgusted by his behaviour,’ he said.

Cantrill was sentenced to 10 months suspended for 12 months. He was disqualified from driving for three years.
