Lorry driver caught drink driving had 31 TONNES of wine in his trailer

Dimitar Kamov, 38, was jailed for ten months after breath test showed he was three times over limit

Jailed: Dimitar Kamov had bottle of vodka in his cab

A lorry driver has been jailed for ten months for being drunk at the wheel while carrying a 31-tonne load of wine.

Dimitar Kamov, 38, was pulled over by police after motorists saw him veering across the A14 dual carriageway near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that officers had to help the Bulgarian when he got out of his cab because he was so unsteady on his feet.

Police recovered a bottle of vodka from his cab and found containers full of wine in his 20ft trailer.

A breath test revealed he was more than three times the drink-drive limit with 107 mcgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

Kamov, who lives in Bulgaria, admitted dangerous driving and drink-driving on November 22 last year.

He was jailed for ten months and banned from driving for three years and five months this week.
